For me 2013 has been a year of pushing boundaries and learning limits. I remember this time last year I was just starting to poke around social media outside of Facebook, discovering twitter and ted talks, instagram and interaction design. Since then I've gotten involved in a whole host of online platforms, and have even mustered a nice Klout score. It's fascinating to learn and see how people interact virtually, how ideas spread like wildfire, and how different interfaces are conducive to positive user experiences. I've realized that social media, and media design in general, is a field in which I could thrive, and I hope to continue exploring into 2014.
2013 has also been a year of geographic exploration. Since January I've been to 7 countries across Europe and South America. I've done visual studies of the Colosseum in Rome, shopped in Piccadilly Circus in London, trekked through the mountains of Switzerland, and spent 5 months living in Argentina studying abroad. I've gotten to experience an incredible diversity of cultures. I have learned how to form roots in unknown territory, how to travel alone, and how to deal in discomfort. Traveling has opened me up to new ways of living and interacting with others.
So here's to 2013. To the friends found and the memories treasured. To the mistakes made and the lessons learned. And here's to the new adventures to come in 2014. Never stop exploring.
