My Story

How did you start on YouTube? 

I made my first video “Harvard Freshman Year" in response to an optional assignment (which I of course completed because I'm a nerd) from my high school history teacher to make a vlog about what college was like, to send back to the current seniors. People started asking me questions about Harvard in the comments, and so my vlogging began!

After I graduated, I started chronicling my personal development journey more broadly, including developing my mental health, physical health, sexuality, career, personal productivity, and views on society.

What did you study at Harvard?

I majored in Visual and Environmental Studies with a Film/Video focus and minored in Computer Science.

What kind of videos do you make now on YouTube?

On my original channel, I make videos on personal development and mindful productivity with a focus on my current journey as a creative entrepreneur. I’m also developing a new social commentary video essay channel where I’ll be discussing the concept of American Democracy and what American values should be moving us forward. That work is supported by a fellowship with New America.

Are you Ghanaian? Ethiopian?

Nope, I’m All-American baby. I’m a proud descendant of enslaved Black Americans, so my roots in the U.S. go back to at least 1808. And still, like dust, we rise.

Being a YouTuber

What video equipment do you use?

My main camera is a Panasonic Lumix GH5. You can find my current video kit here. I edit in Adobe Premiere CC.

How do I gain more subscribers on YouTube?

Make videos that are searchable and bring your unique perspective and personality. What are people looking for that you know particularly well or have a unique opinion on? Try that.

Attending Harvard

I’m not from the United States, can I attend Harvard?

Yes! When I was there about 10% of the student body was international. Best to check Harvard’s website for details on their current application procedures.

Does Harvard have financial aid?

Yes! When I was there they gave scholarships based on financial need. Best to check Harvard’s website for their current financial aid policies.

I’m an aspiring Harvard student, can you give me advice on how to get in?

I already have! I don’t currently do personal academic consulting, but I’ve given lots of tips in my How To Get Into Harvard series.
